CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An inmate at Jefferson City Correctional Center was charged with felonies after he allegedly stabbed a corrections officer during a food tray pickup on Feb 29th; Gary Owen Miller—50 and already serving an 80-year sentence—faces charges in Cole County for first-degree assault, armed criminal action, violence toward a DOC employee and weapon possession, and a court date has not been set. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri State Museum hosted an opening ceremony on Saturday afternoon for Missouri Makers, an exhibit that celebrates 40 years of the traditional arts apprenticeship program and features work by master artists and apprentices — the exhibit will be open daily until June. KRCG-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The School Funding Modernization Task Force met Monday, June 23 at the Truman Building (downtown) to review the school funding formula with a focus on local tax effort. The group will recommend changes to improve fairness, outcomes, and sustainability in education funding (based on best practices in other states). Jefferson City News Tribune

- ➤ The city is preparing to clear its yard waste site today after residents complained about misuse and because the piled waste did not meet removal standards — officials will soon request proposals to hire a new contractor. - ➤ Sara Smith, who spent nearly 20 years as a child abuse investigator, took charge of Missouri’s Children’s Division in March and now works to bring stability amid federal review—she supports rules that let kids stay with relatives for short times and wants the juvenile office to help check decisions.
