COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Legion Barbecue held a lunchtime event on May 17th at Schulte’s Fresh Foods parking lot that served saucy meals to veterans & made dining easy for customers.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Capital City will host a series of community events in the coming weeks including a free mental health walk-through at JCMG on May 20 that offers resources & swag bags, state track championships at Jefferson City High School on May 23-24 and May 30-31, and a Pow Wow celebrating Native American culture at the Jaycees Cole County Fairgrounds on May 24-25. Kidsfest at Ellis-Porter Riverside Park on May 31 and a vintage and handmade market at the same fairgrounds on June 6-7 will offer free entry for children & low admission fees for adults.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • Four Helias Catholic High School students were recognized in a court-based art contest for their jury-themed artwork.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Three high school students received $1,000 scholarships from the Jane Randolph Jefferson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Grace Luebbering will study agriculture education and communications at Missouri State University—Sophia Sandbothe will pursue nursing at UM-Columbia, and Maggie Stonner from Blair Oaks High School will study chemical engineering at UM-Columbia.  Jefferson City News Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A Linn native is expanding his workspace in the state recycling program office in the basement of the Harry S. Truman State Office Building and is determined to protect the environment. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jefferson City leaders are reviewing a proposed downtown conference center (after $20 million in state funding fell through) and may seek new funding sources or a downsized plan (to adjust to the funding gap).  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • The Missouri Department of Conservation will offer free fishing without a permit during Free Fishing Days June 7—8. Anglers must follow size and catch limits—fishing rules remain in effect at all sites.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Jefferson City inspected food service establishments in April 2025 as required by the local food code—each must be checked at least once every six months.  Jefferson City News Tribune
