ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In 2024, Missouri farmers raised over 15 and a half million turkeys that were delivered nationwide for Thanksgiving—making the state fifth in turkey production. Farmers such as Matt Vanschyndel of Hedge Holler Harvest raised pasture-raised turkeys, and the industry continues year-round to support family meals. KRCG-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation is increasing testing for chronic wasting disease among deer during the open firearm season by collecting more hunter samples over two days. Samples are quickly processed with an initial ELISA screen and confirmed with IHC—results delivered within 10 days—as the department also studies new prion detection methods. KRCG-TV

- ➤ On April 2, an EF-2 tornado hit Pilot Grove, damaging 16 homes, 12 commercial buildings, and two public buildings while 29 agencies responded despite struggles with incompatible radio systems—Cooper County Emergency Management Agency noted delays with mobile command setup and siren activation. County officials are upgrading communication systems with a $2.7 million project to improve radio infrastructure and install new battery-powered sirens—expected to be complete by early next year. - ➤ A state review fully cleared former Ballparks National general manager Jeff Vernetti—ending over a year of uncertainty for the Lake of the Ozarks youth sports complex expansion—and construction on three new fields has resumed with the project set to complete in time for the 2026 tournament season.
