COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 43-day government shutdown ended but many neighbors still face hunger as delayed SNAP benefits push more families to seek help from the Food Bank and Salvation Army—local restaurants have also offered meals and the Jefferson City Salvation Army will provide food boxes today from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. while travel at Columbia Regional Airport is slowly returning to normal despite longer connecting times.   KRCG-TV
  • United Way of Central Missouri celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Missouri Farm Bureau—surpassing its $2.8M campaign goal for 2025 as hundreds of donors, agency partners, and volunteers marked the occasion. The funds will support 26 partner agencies in local counties.  KRCG-TV
  • Lincoln University’s Finca Fest 2025 offered interactive exhibits, food samples, and farm tours at its Finca EcoFarm—engaging visitors with hands-on learning about native ingredients and sustainable farming.   • At Lincoln University's Centennial Homecoming on Oct. 31, Slim and Husky's Pizza Beeria opened in the newly renovated Scruggs University Center cafeteria — Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe attended the event, and the $1.75 million upgrade improved the dining space for students and alumni.  Lincoln University of Missouri
  • Lincoln University hosted its annual Masked Ball on Oct. 31 at Jason Hall in Jefferson City as part of its 100th Homecoming celebration, featuring a reception, dinner, silent auction and live entertainment. The event raised funds for the Student Scholarship Fund with keynote remarks from President John B. Moseley—marking a centennial milestone for the university.  Lincoln University of Missouri
  • Lincoln University alumna Florene Dawkins ’77 returned to campus on October 31 for the Florene C. Dawkins Art Collective Exhibit II where she donated 138 pieces of art, rare books and manuscripts. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe joined university officials and guests at the exhibition held at the Dorothy E. Steward Art Gallery inside the Richardson Fine Arts Center—an event that celebrated her lifelong commitment to cultural preservation and supports plans for an on-campus African American Art Museum.  Lincoln University of Missouri

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Social Services announced that all SNAP participants will receive their full November benefits after federal funding was restored by an act signed on November 12. The agency said families who received partial benefits will get the remaining amount soon—no action is required from them.  KRCG-TV
  • State utility regulators have set a public hearing for Ameren Missouri's plan to build a 250 megawatt Reform Solar Project in southeastern Callaway County that will include a 345 kilovolt switching station near Ameren’s nuclear plant. The in-person meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Jan. 6 while a virtual hearing will be held at noon on Jan. 8 for public comment.  ABC 17
