COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Schnucks will hold a food drive in all stores starting Thursday and running through November 11 to help Missourians who lost their SNAP benefits due to the shutdown. The chain asks for nonperishable items such as canned goods + noodles + pasta sauce to support local food banks.  ABC 17
  • The Jefferson City Salvation Army said food demand increased over the past two weeks and urged neighbors to donate items such as canned fruits, meats, and soups before SNAP benefits end. Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 927 Jefferson St (call 573-635-1975 to arrange another time).  ABC 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Fall 2025 Missouri Farm Income Outlook projects Missouri net farm income to reach $5.39 billion in 2025—a 58% increase from 2024 thanks to higher livestock receipts and government payments. The report also shows a slight drop in crop receipts and forecasts a 16% decline in net farm income in 2026 as government payments return to average levels.  KRCG-TV

  • Lincoln University released its Fall 2025 State of the University report showing rising enrollment, high retention rates, and improved academic standings.   • On Thursday, Lincoln University students took part in CrashOut With Conduct, a stress relief event organized by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards during Homecoming week where they smashed cars with mallets on Chestnut Street.   • Lincoln University in Jefferson City began its 100th homecoming this week—honoring its 1925 legacy—by reviving old traditions and starting a new Alumni Council to keep Blue Tigers connected. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation has invited local landowners to a prescribed burn workshop set for next month from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.—attendees will learn how controlled burns serve as a key land management tool.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An anonymous donation of over $400,000 funded improvements at Oak Hills Golf Center—$73,625.07 to expand the 11th hole cart path and $353,508 to re-grow the 18th green, which was completed earlier this month while the 18th hole will remain closed until early next year.  ABC 17
  • Federal programs from the U.S. Department of Agriculture remain on hold due to the government shutdown, which has delayed CCC loans and conservation support for mid-Missouri farmers. Farmer Robert Alpers and cattle rancher Chuck Miller said the paused programs have hindered projects such as installing ponds to improve downstream water quality—actions that are vital amid high input costs.  KRCG-TV

  • Columbia native Garet Williamson of Fischer Motorsports in Jefferson City could secure rookie of the year honors next weekend at the world finals in Charlotte.
