COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Chris and June Baker won the Fall Garden of the Season when the Bittersweet Garden Club & Central Missouri Master Gardeners honored them with a commemorative rock and yard sign. The ceremony took place at their home on Monday, Oct. 20. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Inclement weather postponed the trunk or treat at Adkins Stadium (616 Union St.) and the event is now rescheduled for next Sunday from 2-4 p.m. The event will be hosted by (United Way of Central Missouri, Nichols Career Center, Missouri Association for the Education of Young Children, and the Special Learning Center) and will feature face painting, temporary tattoos, sensory tables and free books from Scholastic. - ➤ About 2,000 children attended the 17th annual Jefferson City Jaycees Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday afternoon—where they experienced a kid-friendly DJ, a fire truck, and an inflatable Pikachu, enjoying a festive event that brought the community together. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ On Saturday, scores of Show Me State residents from along the Big Muddy (the Missouri River) worked together to clean a stretch of the river. Jefferson City News Tribune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local artist Nicole Landwehr (who developed her skills behind Hobby Lobby) has returned to Jefferson City after college to pursue her art career; she attended Art 101 classes (taught by Cindy Schnieders) that sparked her early passion for painting. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ John Colbert Russell arrived in the Russellville area with his parents from Kentucky on November 25—he was 20 at the time—setting a legacy that has influenced many parts of Mid-Missouri. His historic arrival has left a lasting mark on the region. Jefferson City News Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln University political science professor Elizabeth Dorssom was elected vice chair for the Civic Engagement Section of the American Political Science Association in a Friday release. She will work with other national leaders to guide civic engagement efforts. Jefferson City News Tribune
