COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Jefferson City Parks department will host a Halloween Skate at Washington Park Ice Arena from 1-4 p.m. Saturday—an event set to thrill local skaters on the ice. Jefferson City News Tribune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Last weekend, Jefferson City celebrated 200 years with trolley tours, lectures and a history fair on Madison St — the event featured Missouri State Archives images and displays of early city trustees even though the city officially turns 200 on November 7. KRCG-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Missouri lawmakers signed Senate Bill 4 in April and parts of the One Big Beautiful Bill that allow utilities to charge for plants under construction and set rates using a future test year – a report by Energy Innovation shows household bills may rise about $640 a year and wholesale prices could jump 74% by 2035 while excess charges must be returned to customers. The law also requires that all rate increases be reviewed by the Public Service Commission, which gives locals a chance to speak up. Jefferson City News Tribune

- ➤ A group of EMT students at Lincoln University will have their tuition covered this fall by a $22,000 AT&T Scholarship Fund grant — each student receiving $1,600 to complete a two-semester program that meets state certification requirements. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Lincoln University of Missouri will celebrate its 100th Homecoming with events that showcase historic yearbook images tracing campus traditions and achievements—festivities run from October 26 through November 1. - ➤ Jefferson City High School was named among the top 100 schools for speech and debate honors last year by the National Speech and Debate Association. The school earned the recognition for its strong debate program and commitment to academic excellence. Jefferson City News Tribune

- ➤ Gary Campbell is serving a life sentence and worked with fellow inmates to transform a housing unit into the new Honor Dorm at Jefferson City Correctional Center—one wing has been cleaned and painted—and another will soon be updated. Jefferson City News Tribune
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ WNBA star Sophie Cunningham, a former Missouri Tiger, made a surprise appearance at JC High’s outdoor volleyball fundraiser to support assistant principal Jamie Schulte—who is battling breast cancer. Cunningham, currently off from the Indianapolis Fever with injuries, helped energize the community event. KWOS
- ➤ The Jefferson City Medical Group set up a booth in the hospital lobby during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to show visitors the importance of checking for lumps. Medical staff explained that women should do monthly self-breast exams—especially if they have a family history—to help catch changes early. KRCG-TV

- ➤ A Boonville team of linemen competed last week at the International Lineman’s Rodeo in Bonner Springs—finishing 90th out of 290 in the Best of the Best event with challenges like a timed egg mission and pole climb, and chief Kevin Oser said one mistake lowered their score. A Jefferson City girl won first in the First Step Apprentices category while a local boy took the Top Future Lineman award. KRCG-TV
- ➤ Workers are putting the final touches on the Mid America Bank Sports Complex on SOMO Drive in Jefferson City as new curbs and guttering have been installed—driveway material will be added soon to prepare for this weekend's Haunted Capital Cup Soccer Tournament presented by Strikers Bowling Alley and a restaurant.
