COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local charities in Jefferson City are preparing for the holiday season by collecting warm winter clothes, meal ingredients, and gifts for children and seniors living alone. Donations will be dropped off at designated sites including St. Mary's Hospital entrances and the Health Plaza — efforts aimed at supporting the Samaritan Center.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • The Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association is hosting the ‘Legacy of Love’ gala Friday at Capitol Plaza Hotel to raise funds for foster and adoptive families. The event (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.) (tickets cost $75) will fund essential services including begin again backpacks for children.  KWOS

  • MAC is selling vehicles from the former Buescher Funeral Home & accepting bids until November, giving collectors and classic car enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of East Capitol Avenue history.  Jefferson City News Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lincoln University alumna Florene Dawkins is donating 138 pieces of art, rare books and manuscripts to her alma mater to help build an African American art museum on campus—her gift reflects both her passion for collecting and her gratitude for the education she received. An exhibit of her donated works is scheduled for October 31 at the Dorothy E. Steward Art Gallery for students and the community to enjoy.  Lincoln University of Missouri

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Prairie Home RV School evacuated Tuesday after a gas smell was detected in the building—authorities were called to investigate and the school said students will be bussed to Methodist Hall due to the cold wind.  KRCG-TV
  • Work groups studying Missouri school funding reached the halfway point of their meetings on Monday and looked at ways to change the state adequacy target and how students are counted—details that affect how funds are split among districts. They will meet three more times before giving recommendations in December for changes due by December 2026.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • Lincoln University has partnered with Cole County public safety agencies to launch the Public Safety Explorer Post program—giving Jefferson City youths a chance to explore careers in public safety soon.  Jefferson City News Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jefferson City Jays quarterback Alex Wilson, a senior, threw two first-half touchdown passes and ran 64 yards for a key score to help his team win 48 to 40 at Columbia Battle Friday night—coach Matt Herman praised his leadership. He has thrown for 925 yards this season and rushed for 375 yards while averaging nearly eight yards per carry.  KWOS
