ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Missouri State Highway Patrol warned drivers to be careful in October as deer are very active at dawn and dusk—2,951 crashes last year included one incident in Cole County that seriously hurt an Eldon man. Drivers are urged to avoid swerving to reduce the risk of losing control.  ABC 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jefferson City's JC200 Street Fair was held Friday on Madison Street near the Governor's Mansion to celebrate the city's 200th anniversary—featuring re-enactments, artifacts, and interactive displays where visitors like the Soden family met figures such as Abraham Lincoln. Organizers from Historic City of Jefferson, city government, and the Cole County Historical Society worked together to honor local history.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A small field trip for a few fourth-grade classes in May served as a practice run for last week's district-wide River Days—organizers said the test run helped them plan improvements for future events.   • A Missouri law went into effect last August that bans the sale of six invasive plant species—experts say the rule protects native trees and natural habitats by stopping plants like the Callery pear from spreading.
