- ➤ Jefferson City bookshops and libraries are hosting Banned Books Week from Oct 5th to Oct 11th to raise awareness of restrictions on book content — Curious Turtle Bookstore is offering 10% off books with a library card while Missouri River Regional Library will share banned book facts on social media. - ➤ Missouri Department of Conservation officials will host an open house at Cole County R-5 School District today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.—letting local hunters ask questions about deer season changes, Chronic Wasting Disease, and private lands management. - ➤ Bob Mahacek, a lifelong South County resident and small business owner, announced his candidacy for Missouri House District 95 today—he will focus on cutting property taxes, fixing the reassessment system, reducing crime, expanding school choice and protecting women’s sports and spaces. The Missouri Times
- ➤ The Jefferson City Council is debating an $8 million spending plan for a conference center project that will include a 200-room hotel, new parking garage and convention spaces on Capitol Avenue—developers say the hotel will create nearly 400 jobs. KWOS
- ➤ The Cole County Sheriff's Office plans to use $50,000 from the Blue Shield grant program to buy five mobile data terminals+ three portable radios and a mobile security camera under a state contract. Sheriff John Wheeler said the county commission approved the funding Tuesday as Gov. Kehoe's office announced additional grant awards. ABC 17
- ➤ DSS launched two new webpages today to help Missourians understand how HR 1 and Healthy SNAP will affect its programs. DSS Director Jess Bax said the pages provide updates, timelines and FAQs — and allow residents to send public comments on federal and state changes. Jefferson City News Tribune
