  • Learning in Retirement helps local seniors stay active by offering fall events such as bocce games at Prison Brews on Ash Street and a variety of classes that continue through November—members pay $50 a year and new joiners are welcome.   • At the September AARP Chapter 4401 meeting, an officer taught seniors how to avoid scams—guiding them with clear advice during a patriotic event that began with the pledge of allegiance and a commemoration of Sept. 11.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • A memorial service honoring fallen Missouri firefighters will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri where fallen Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Tobben—who died during a water rescue in July 2024—is honored. His name will be added to the wall of honor on Sunday.  ABC 17
  • Mizzou Athletics and the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Score Against Hunger campaign this fall with a ribbon cutting attended by Columbia Chamber of Commerce ambassadors; veteran broadcaster Mike Kelly (a food bank board member) said the campaign started by coach Larry Smith in 1995 now helps more than 100,000 people each month across a 32-county area.  KWOS
