COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 118 Foundation handed out over 150 turkeys to Moniteau firefighters on Friday afternoon to honor volunteer Bruce Longan—who served 37 years with the California Rural Fire Department.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • JC Parks announced that FarmFest featuring Cow Patty Bingo will take place Sunday, October 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 63 Diamonds Ballfields, 12142 Renz Farm Road in Jefferson City—attendees can purchase bingo squares for $20 and win cash prizes of $200 for the winning square and $50 for each adjacent square while enjoying agricultural booths, games, demonstrations, and live music; adults pay $5 with kids 12 and under admitted free.  KRCG-TV
  • Mid-Missouri is planning a long list of Halloween events for families this October—ranging from trick-or-treat in Jefferson City and Columbia to costume parties in Fulton and parades in New Bloomfield. The events will take place at various venues in Sedalia, Ashland, Kingdom City, Cedar Valley, and other areas.  KRCG-TV

  • Missouri Department of Conservation warns residents to not feed bears—black bears are growing and may search for food in nearby backyards this fall.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri Medicaid director Todd Richardson is stepping down at the end of October as his team prepares to follow new federal directives (including work requirements and a tax cap), and an interim director will be chosen by mid-October to ensure over 1.3 million enrollees receive care without interruption. The department said it will maintain smooth operations during the transition.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Governor Mike Kehoe has allowed the Missouri National Guard to help ICE today by providing clerical and logistical support at processing facilities in counties with ICE contracts—this support will continue until Sept 30, 2026.  KRCG-TV
  • Cole County EMS used funds to cover a $4,900 gap for the Safe Haven Baby Box installation at its downtown headquarters and will request state reimbursement after the device is installed by the end of the year. The community raised nearly $28,000 to support the project, and officials overcame location challenges by choosing an accessible area behind the engine truck garages — a spot that meets state requirements for safety and environmental control.  ABC 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • KRCG 13 is raising funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by taking part in the Think Pink Putting Challenge and aims to collect $10,000 over the next month. Staff practiced putting Tuesday and the challenge has started with a $500 donation from Sinclair Broadcast Group—money that will support local cancer treatment programs.  KRCG-TV
