CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Jefferson City welcomed crews for the new season of The Fireball Run yesterday — the planned outdoor welcome at the State Capitol moved to Courtyard by Marriott because of rain. Filming begins today with 32 teams exploring the city and well-known guests like Christopher McDonald joining, and a public send-off is planned on Thursday. KRCG-TV

- ➤ Lincoln University alumna Dr. Gloria Washington was named to the EBONY Power 100 STEM Trailblazers list, earning national recognition for her groundbreaking work in affective computing and human-centered design—an honor that spotlights her innovative contributions and the strength of a tight-knit academic community. - ➤ Lincoln University received a $725,669 grant from the National Science Foundation to study rural challenges such as food and water shortages and declining populations; the four-year project (Sept. 1 to Aug. 31) began on September 1 and will help policymakers develop strategies for rural resilience. - ➤ Yesterday, the USS Jefferson City—a 7,000-ton Los Angeles Class submarine named for our city—docked in port, and crew members welcomed local interest. Jefferson City High School sophomore Lilith Shields met with the crew, including Cmdr. A.J. Franz, and learned about possible Navy careers. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe awarded Missouri's highest public safety honors at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the state highway patrol's training academy gymnasium where 15 Missouri Medals of Valor and other awards recognized heroic acts in 2024. Awardees included Assistant Chief Matt Tobben and two Callaway County deputies—a former Chief Lana Karhoff also received the Medal of Valor. ABC 17
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe signed Executive Order 25-29 today—declaring a drought alert in Missouri until December 1 to allow state agencies to direct resources to areas affected by drought that disrupts agriculture and waterway navigation. KRCG-TV
