COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Community members volunteered on Friday for United Way Day of Caring, helping with yard work, cleaning and serving lunch to older adults — groups including business teams and retirees chose tasks that suited their skills. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri unveiled a new semi-trailer today to mark 30 years of its Score Against Hunger partnership with Mizzou Athletics. The 18-wheeler will serve as a mobile billboard and deliver food to people in 32 counties during the game. KRCG-TV
- ➤ Community Christian Church will host a two-day diaper drive on September 26th and 27th to support families in need. Diapers will be accepted from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.—the church collected 12,000 diapers last year for the Capital City Diaper Bank. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ KWOS and Central Bank have scheduled tailgate events at local high school football games this fall at 5:00 p.m. on September 5, September 19, October 3, October 10, October 17 and October 24 — paid attendees will receive free T-shirts, quarter-pound hot dogs, Hy-Vee chips and Coke while giveaways last until 6:30 p.m. at each game. - ➤ ACCT of Jefferson City launched a new Permanency Program this week to speed up the legal paperwork for children in Missouri's foster care so families meet with attorneys in days rather than weeks—helping children find a permanent home faster. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Jefferson City Fire Department responded to an attic fire at a home on the 2200 block of Rivercrest Drive around 9:10 p.m. Thursday that left two adults without a place to sleep and caused moderate to heavy damage—officials said the fire was accidental—and noted that heavy storms, possibly including lightning, may have contributed to the blaze—while no injuries were reported.
