CULTURE NEWS

  • The Capital Arts Chalk Art Festival took place on Sunday at Memorial Park where about 160 people used chalk to brighten the walking path. Each area of the path told a story—showing animals, cartoon characters, and ice cream cones—and featured friendly messages in bright colors.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln University announced that its Fall 2025 EMT certificate students will have their tuition fully covered by a $22,000 AT&T Scholarship Fund grant, giving each student $1,600 in support. The hybrid program meets state certification requirements and offers hands-on training for emergency services careers.  Lincoln University of Missouri
  • Ethan Nevins’ wish led to the opening of a new sensory room at Cole R-5 Elementary in Eugene—financed by the Make-A-Wish Foundation so students now have a calm place to relax.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Jefferson City Council voted 7-2 against a bill that would have prevented officials from sharing closed meeting records (the ruling preserves current practices).  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • River Market construction in Jefferson City is on schedule and will finish in January or February 2026—when the facility will host art shows, concerts, markets and festivals.  KRCG-TV
  • On Monday, the City Council voted to view redacted records from a market study—focused on a downtown conference center.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Yesterday, the Missouri State Capitol Commission did not select a plan to expand and renovate the Capitol Building due to last-minute questions — it is considering three proposals and will send updated information to all interested parties.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Cole County Circuit Judge Christopher Limbaugh heard arguments Monday from NAACP attorneys who claim Gov. Kehoe improperly called a special session to redraw Missouri's congressional map — the NAACP seeks to have the lawmakers' actions declared void. State Solicitor General Louis Capozzi argued that the case should be dismissed because the legislature already met to pass the disputed bills.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • Ava McReynolds, a Capital City Lady Cavaliers softball pitcher, was named KWOS Athlete of the Week for recording a 2-0 win with 17 strikeouts in 17 innings and hitting .556—she also hit a home run and drove in 12 runs as her team won the Warrensburg Invitational.  KWOS
