  • The Missouri House passed a new congressional map that splits the 5th District and boosts GOP chances, and it will go to the Missouri Senate and Gov. Mike Kehoe for signature this week. Opponents plan a referendum and legal challenge—voters may decide in upcoming elections if the map applies to the 2026 midterms.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Representative Mark Alford of Missouri's fourth district paused all public events after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday at a Utah college, saying his office will not risk the safety of his family, staff & his own amid rising political violence.  ABC 17
  • Yesterday, protesters filled the State Capitol as political leaders and local residents expressed deep concern over Governor Kehoe's special session on redistricting and its effects on minority voters—attendees, including national lawmakers, pledged future legal challenges if the plan went through.  KRCG-TV
  • Nearly 1,000 volunteers gathered signatures on Wednesday night for a ballot initiative aimed at protecting majority rule in Missouri—an effort led by the Respect Missouri Voters Coalition that seeks to keep citizen initiative rights intact on the 2026 ballot.   • The city is moving forward with plans to demolish the Madison Street garage after the Jefferson City Historic Preservation Commission approved a demolition review Tuesday—clear steps are now being taken to remove the structure.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • A group of hemp business leaders and advocates filed four initiative petitions Tuesday in Jefferson City asking voters to let marijuana and hemp products be sold in the same stores as alcohol and tobacco. The petitions—led by American Shaman—seek to replace the law that made recreational marijuana legal in 2022 while keeping current tax rules and will gather signatures until May for a November ballot.  Jefferson City News Tribune
