COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sept. 8 at Capitol Plaza Hotel, Cork, Fork & Brew will return to support the Boys & Girls Club's 30th anniversary by hosting a dinner auction that starts at 5:30 p.m. Local chefs and vendors will offer tastings and a live auction will begin at 7 p.m.—with funds helping pay for scholarships and ongoing programs.  Jefferson City News Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ernst Law LLC in Jefferson City is now open and is taking clients statewide — the firm helps with criminal charges and appeals. Attorney Sarah Ernst brings many years of trial work and offers strong legal support for Missourians facing tough cases.  The Missouri Times

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old man in Jefferson City was charged after he allegedly stole a firearm on Monday and posted about it on social media.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Lincoln University’s Aquaculture Program assisted Chesterfield police in testing a confiscated gas canister from suspected dealers selling balloons filled with nitrous oxide—confirming high gas levels and leading to the arrest of two suspects in a felony drug investigation.  Lincoln University of Missouri

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Missouri Corn Growers Association announced it will move into a new expanded headquarters next year—creating more space for events, workshops and programs to help Missouri farmers. CEO Brad Schad said the move is a long-term investment to strengthen the state’s agricultural economy.  The Missouri Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln University and the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture will graduate 14 market gardening apprentices in October as their three-year program ends—this apprenticeship taught local growers agricultural economics, marketing and farm practices through classroom sessions and field visits. The USDA-funded program gave participants the skills to launch small businesses in agriculture.  Lincoln University of Missouri

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said Cole County's new juvenile detention center will break ground early next year on a 7-acre lot on St. Mary's Boulevard in Jefferson City and is expected to open by mid to late 2027 despite coming in about 5% over its roughly $14 million budget (the county commission remains confident and may adjust plans to keep essential program features and a community feel).  KRCG-TV
  • The Missouri chapter of the NAACP sued Gov. Mike Kehoe yesterday in Cole County to stop a special session on congressional redistricting because state law says it must follow the census. Lawmakers set a hearing today on a new map that shifts the Fifth Congressional district from Kansas City into parts of Mid-Missouri — the suit claims the session would cause irreparable harm and burden taxpayers.  ABC 17
