  • An inmate at Southeast Correctional Center, Elijah William Moore (42), was charged with new felony offenses (including First-Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action) after he allegedly threw a chemical mixture in one victim's eyes and attacked another with a makeshift knife in May 2023.  KRCG-TV
  • Two Jefferson City men are facing felony drug trafficking charges after sheriff deputies raided their apartment—allegedly finding 88 grams of methamphetamine.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Elementary School planted a memorial tree in memory of former student Yatvik Sai Turlapati on August 29. Teachers and students shared kind words during the ceremony and the school will hold an annual spelling bee in his honor.  KRCG-TV

  • Gov. Mike Kehoe signed House Bill 567 that ended the mandated sick leave law on Aug. 28—Yellow Dog Bookshop owner Joe Chevalier said he will keep giving sick leave to his workers. Labor unions and Missouri Jobs With Justice plan more laws to help workers.  ABC 17

  • Mizzou’s Carnahan Quad will host live broadcasts of the Paul Finebaum show on Friday afternoon & SEC Nation from 9-11 Saturday morning, with a sellout 2:30 p.m. game at Faurot Field between Mizzou & Kansas set for Saturday. Heavy traffic is expected in Columbia on Saturday as Kansas fans visit for the border war game.  KWOS
