FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Missouri’s Department of Revenue announced that the state is the first to fully exempt capital gains tax for individuals with bill HB 594, which deducts 100% of gains from income on investments like stocks, real estate, and cryptocurrency—preparing adjustments for next tax season. Governor Mike Kehoe signed the legislation, and corporations will receive a similar benefit when their deduction takes effect next year if the tax rate drops to 4.5%. KRCG-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Cole County Commission voted Tuesday to send to voters a measure that would impose a 10-year sunset on the capital improvement sales tax—voters will decide on its future in April next year. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ A Cole County judge heard motions on Tuesday morning to adjust Ryan Ferguson’s award from Travelers Insurance after a jury sided with Ferguson and six former detectives in November. Attorney Michael Berry argued that adding 129 days’ interest would raise the current $43.8 million judgment by $1.3 million and Judge Cotton Walker will rule by Oct. 16 — parties will then have 30 days to file an appeal. - ➤ The City of Jefferson shared a behind-the-scenes look at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport and said the foundation for a new air traffic control tower is underway to replace a temporary 1973 structure. Wall construction will begin in coming weeks using $6.4 million from former Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, a $1.3 million FAA grant — and support from the Missouri Department of Transportation.
