- ➤ Missouri’s largest teacher’s union asked a judge in Cole County Circuit Court to pause private‐school voucher payments until a ruling on funding legality is issued—attorneys argued that using $51 million from general revenue for scholarships could harm taxpayers and disrupt the MOScholars program for over 6,100 students. - ➤ A farmer from Tipton attended Lincoln University's Small Ruminant Field Day on Friday to learn techniques to make her sheep more profitable. Over 30 participants gathered at the George Washington Carver Research Farm where state specialist Mohan Acharya demonstrated pasture management, electric fences & drone usage to improve farming practices. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Jefferson City Mayor Ron Fitzwater presented his proposed $86 million budget for fiscal year 2026 to City Council on Thursday— the plan funds public safety, road repairs, and a 2.5% raise for city workers while including six new police vehicles. City Council will finalize the budget in October and the new fiscal year begins on Nov. 1. KRCG-TV
- ➤ Cole County's first crop of EMT students completed a fourteen week course on Friday—marking the first time the county trained EMTs locally. At the EMS headquarters, Chief Eric Hoy congratulated Joshua Gibson, one of two Jefferson City firefighters in the program. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Cole County EMS is working to remove barriers between its medical services and emergency management divisions at its Southridge Drive station—both groups combined into one agency in June. The agency plans to boost cooperation and improve emergency response for the community. Jefferson City News Tribune
