CRIME NEWS

  • Jefferson City man Jeremy Alexander, 24, accused of assaulting a man who died, faced a hung jury after several hours of deliberation—he remains in Cole County Jail without bond and no new trial date has been set.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln University Cooperative Extension leads SARE-funded programs to help Missouri sheep and goat producers, including Dr. Mohan Acharya’s three-year Sheep and Goats Master Training Program with $91,926 and a fencing project with $49,896 that trained 37 farmers in March—both efforts have held consultations, webinars and on-farm events and will continue through October 2025 and October 2026. Dr. Homero Salinas’s Midwest-SREPI initiative, backed by a $249,285 grant and running until January, is boosting local skills in parasite testing, pasture care and marketing.  Lincoln University of Missouri
  • After more than 30 years on Fairgrounds Road, the Special Learning Center opened its new Debbie Hamler campus at 905 Weathered Rock Road. The expanded campus doubled its space to serve 900 children and added programs including music therapy and autism support—funded by state aid and community donations.  KRCG-TV
  • Students returned to class Tuesday in the North Callaway School District as construction progressed on a new elementary school in Kingdom City—consolidating Williamsburg Elementary and Hatton-McCredie Elementary—and the building will open in fall while saving about $600,000 to boost teacher pay.  KRCG-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kehoe signed a law on July 10th that exempts diapers, feminine hygiene products used for managing menstrual flow, and products for urinary incontinence from sales and use taxes—this new law will take effect on Thursday, August 28th to lower tax costs on essential items.  KRCG-TV
  • Jefferson City officials introduced an $86.9 million fiscal year 2026 budget that focuses on public safety, employee salaries, and infrastructure improvements during the first Budget Committee meeting. The plan includes a 2.5% pay raise for city workers, increased benefits, and a new wastewater revenue stream—meant to fund street repairs—and it awaits final City Council amendments at the end of the budget season.  ABC 17
