- ➤ The Jefferson City Salvation Army opened a Homeless Resource Center on Monday that offers housing, healthcare, job help and free meals while renovating to nearly double beds from 31 to 62—residents can also use computers and get one-on-one caseworker support. - ➤ Jefferson City Council approved a five-year contract with PCI Municipal Services LLC to manage parking operations on Monday night with an 8—2 vote; the agreement costs $4,844,312 total with $645,000 in the first year as the city prepares to replace the Madison Street garage demolition with a new downtown conference center. - ➤ Starting Aug. 28, the Missouri Department of Revenue will exempt period products, diapers, and incontinence products from all sales and use taxes to lower costs—experts note the change will not fully resolve period poverty. The tax removal will drop about 0.45 cents on a $5 item and aligns Missouri with 31 other states making similar changes. ABC 17

- ➤ A Missouri resident died Wednesday in a St. Louis-area hospital after contracting Naegleria fowleri during a waterskiing trip at Lake of the Ozarks — the rare amoeba, which infects brain cells, led to fatal meningitis, officials said. ABC 17
- ➤ A state program will train forensic nurses to give health care and emotional support to sexual assault victims as rural hospitals face a shortage of experienced caregivers.
