COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Many Mid-Missouri students begin the new school year while facing homelessness and hardship, with some living in unstable conditions and lacking proper support. Jefferson City's Halo shelter is housing 17 youth — local advocates say long wait lists show that more help is needed.  KRCG-TV
  • Pope Leo XIV named Father Ralph O'Donnell as Bishop-Elect for the Diocese of Jefferson City and the Diocese held a press conference at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of St. Joseph on W. Main St. O'Donnell, born in Omaha and ordained in 1997, said he is grateful for his appointment.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students began the school year on Monday at Jefferson City's new Early Childhood Center—designed to serve up to 400 students instead of the 150 the old center held. Superintendent Bryan McGraw said he is excited about the new facility as it supports the educational journey for the district's 8,000 students.  KRCG-TV
  • Jefferson City School District announced on Tuesday that Jefferson City High School and Capital City High School were named on the U.S. News Best High Schools list. Jefferson City High School ranked first among metro schools for a third year while Capital City High School received its first national ranking—both marks show strong academic performance.  KRCG-TV

  • Catherine Hanaway has been named Missouri's next Attorney General—she spent decades leading in state politics as Speaker of the House and U.S. Attorney while achieving historic firsts in our legal system.  The Missouri Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lincoln University opened its new Blue Tigers Zen Den Room on Tuesday morning—complete with calming music and aromatherapy scents permeating the space inside the Thompkins Health Center—to support student mental health.  Jefferson City News Tribune
