COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Boys & Girls Club held a ribbon cutting yesterday in Holts Summit — the new facility will serve over 100 kids with after school programs and summer camps. Community members helped raise $270,000 in 45 days to support the project, and it will open on Monday.  KRCG-TV
  • The tenth annual Battle of the Brews is planned for August 23 at the Jefferson City Jaycees Cole County Fairgrounds—featuring acoustic music, country/rock performances by Cousins McDaniel, and inspirations from Cassie Twehus.  Jefferson City News Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • A federal court will decide whether to revoke Malcolm Redmon’s parole—Redmon, 42, is held in Cole County Jail on a U.S. marshal hold following his arrest by Columbia police on Friday, and his preliminary revocation hearing is set for 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at the U.S. District Court.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Education released preliminary End-of-Course assessment data for the 2024-25 school year that shows a 98% test participation rate with many students scoring higher than last year. Tests in English, math, and science for grades three through eight improved—and officials say they will use the results to help students do even better next year.  KRCG-TV
  • The State Board of Education approved permanently closing 12 Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled on August 12—six of which are already being consolidated and six more will shut by the end of next school year. DESE leaders say the plan will help give students and families better services.  KRCG-TV
  • Lincoln University celebrated the grand reopening of Dawson Hall on Aug. 12 after a $23 million renovation that added modern study nooks with glass walls, a spacious lounge, a convenience store, and an esports arena — built to support student success — while 360 first year students moved in on Aug. 13 and classes begin Aug. 18.  Lincoln University of Missouri

  • Jefferson City and Columbia will host the 2025 Pro Disc Golf Association World Amateur Championship from August 19th to 22nd, with about 300 top amateur disc golfers competing on four courses—two in each city.  KRCG-TV
