- ➤ Cole County deputy Mercy M. Gonzalez pleaded guilty on Friday, August 8 to misdemeanor charges for operating a vehicle carelessly and failing to obey a traffic control device after she drove over 100 mph and hit a Honda Pilot in December 2023 — she received unsupervised probation, community service and a suspended jail term — and she now works as a School Resource Officer with Blair Oaks R-II Schools. - ➤ A Cole County animal abuse case has nearly filled the Jefferson City animal shelter after deputies raided a mobile home last month and charged four suspects, and a fifth suspect was charged later—grant money may help cover animal treatment costs. KWOS
