  • Today, Dairy Queen on Missouri Boulevard is celebrating Miracle Treat Day by donating at least $1 for every blizzard sold to local children’s hospitals through the Children’s Miracle Network + MU Health Care’s Children’s Hospital is the mid-Missouri beneficiary.  KWOS

CRIME NEWS

  • Lorenzo Castro-Manzanarez, a 43-year-old Mexican national who owned restaurants in Columbia, Jefferson City and Springfield, pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy—he admitted allowing illegal immigrants to work at his restaurants using counterfeit Social Security cards to secure an illegal competitive advantage.  KWOS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Missouri’s back-to-school sales tax holiday began Friday at midnight and will run until midnight Sunday so shoppers can save on qualifying items like clothing, school supplies, and computers. The Missouri Department of Revenue set price limits on these items + everyone, including nonresidents, can take part in the tax break.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jay Moore was appointed the new Cole County auditor by Gov. Mike Kehoe on Friday as he replaces Mark Ruether who retired last month. Moore, finance director for the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce with over 30 years of experience in state government, will begin his role soon—he has managed the Missouri Health Department budget and served on the United Way Fund Allocation.  ABC 17
  • Jay Moore was appointed as Cole County Auditor by Governor Mike Kehoe on August 1 and he brings over 30 years of state government experience from roles as finance director for Jefferson City's Chamber of Commerce and budget manager for the Missouri Department of Health.  KRCG-TV
