CRIME NEWS

  • Missouri Capitol Police have requested an arrest warrant for Columbia man Ronald Platto—accused of First-Degree Harassment—after a victim reported unwanted notes and money left on their car outside the Truman Office Building from early April through May 5, with security footage showing him repeatedly near the vehicle and elevator.  KRCG-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • After the 2024 record-low cattle numbers, Missouri cattle farmers switched to breeding heavier cows to help keep beef supply steady (some plants now accept up to 1,200-pound carcasses). This change comes as farmers adjust to higher feed costs and rising beef prices.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Cole R-1 School District in Russellville will offer tuition-free preschool using the Missouri Quality Pre-K grant — which covered tuition last year — to keep costs down for families this year.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jefferson City officials say the new conference center on Capitol Avenue is set to open by June 2028 despite losing $20 million in state funding. City leaders are exploring extra revenue options plus parking displacement plans to help close the gap and work with the state on future partnerships.  ABC 17
  • Lobbyist Chris Schoeman earned his U.S. citizenship, marking a major milestone in his journey from South Africa to Missouri. He studied at Lindenwood University on a rugby scholarship, began a career in finance in St. Louis & now serves as the Director of Compliance at Strategic Capitol Consulting.  The Missouri Times

  • Some Medicare Advantage patients received letters stating JCMG will go out of network with UnitedHealthcare starting September 15, but JCMG says it is negotiating a new contract—aiming to avoid any gaps in coverage.  KRCG-TV
