Four local banks secured matching funds with FHLB Des Moines to boost the Salvation Army’s Center for Hope, which is expanding the county’s only emergency homeless shelter; construction is underway as the campaign nears its $6.5 million goal.

Lincoln University hosted the 2026 Quinoa Field Day on July 14 at its George Washington Carver Farm in Jefferson City.

The event showcased a decade of quinoa research, including dual-purpose harvesting techniques and strategies to boost domestic cultivation.

Lincoln University welcomed 88 high school scholars for its inaugural Thurgood Marshall College Fund SOAR HBCU Scholars Program from June 21 to 26.

The weeklong residential experience featured academic workshops, leadership coaching, and campus tours, and underscored its role as the only host among 16 HBCUs (selected by the Fund).

Noren Access checkpoint opened Wednesday morning as part of the Missouri River 340 race, where hundreds of paddlers had to check in by 4 p.m. on the race route that started Tuesday in Kansas City (with extra safety measures in place).
