- ➤ On July 28, children under 8 showcased small livestock at the Cole County Fair at the Jefferson City Jaycees Fairgrounds—7-year-old Baelor Clark presented his 4-month-old calf Peanut for the first time. Other young exhibitors also showed chickens, pigs, sheep and rabbits to learn basic showmanship skills. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ The Brenna Siebert Fund (a memorial fund) paid all adoption fees at the Jefferson City Animal Shelter from July 28 through Aug. 1, which helped the shelter quickly adopt out pets and ease capacity after a rise in strays from an abuse investigation. Later, authorities charged four people in Cole County with 22 counts of animal abuse after more than 20 animals were found without fresh food or water in a trailer. KRCG-TV
- ➤ The Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday morning to launch a Traveling Trunk (38-foot trailer) that provides free clothing, car seats, toys, and other essentials for foster and adoptive families. The mobile service will visit (24 counties) three times a month to meet needs as the school year begins. KRCG-TV

- ➤ Bike riders say more warning signs are needed at county road intersections along the Katy Trail after a 9-year-old boy died when he was hit by a truck in North Jefferson City Thursday evening—regular riders say heavy brush blocked drivers' view. KWOS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a law on July 14 that limits large-scale water exports from Missouri — the law takes effect on Aug. 28 and requires permits for exports occurring over 30 miles from the border. Experts and farmers say the measure will help protect water resources needed for agriculture, industry and municipal services. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Transportation announced work on Highway 54 over Missouri Boulevard will begin next week and shift traffic. Crews will start on Tuesday, Aug. 5 and reroute eastbound — westbound traffic into passing lanes while closing key ramps during the project. ABC 17
- ➤ Jake Vogel, an Army Ranger veteran who now runs his family Coca Cola business, said he will run for the Senate seat his father Carl Vogel held for 20 years — a seat now open as Senator Mike Bernskoetter is term limited. KWOS

- ➤ More than one million Missouri children will soon return to school and must have completed all the required vaccines, including DTaP, IPV, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap booster & MCV booster, to attend classes as mandated by state law. Health officials said parents should consult with health providers if they have questions and noted that free vaccines are available for eligible children. ABC 17
