  • Divinity Religious Gift Shop, located at 320 Jefferson St.—a local Catholic store in business since 1998—is selling off inventory at a discount as owner Dee Amend prepares to retire. The shop, which moved from 108 High St. in the past, is gradually downsizing its stock ahead of her retirement.  Jefferson City News Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jefferson City hosted the annual International Vintage Lamp Show at Capitol Plaza Hotel this week where collectors and dealers from across the country viewed antique lamps including Aladdin and Victorian styles. Berni Carlson of Topeka said the event featured nearly 120 tables+and the next venue has not yet been decided+further details will be announced soon.  Jefferson City News Tribune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Missouri will hold a sales tax holiday next weekend that lets back-to-school shoppers save money by not paying tax on select items.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will honor former Gov. Mike Parson as a pioneer in education at the Cooperative Conference for School Administrators luncheon on Monday. Parson joins a select group of educators receiving the honor as part of the annual event.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Lincoln University’s Blue Tiger Athletics Club will host its annual Casino Night in August from 5:30—10 p.m. to raise funds for its student athletes with an evening of games and chance.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Frozen federal funds have been released, letting the Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson City continue its educational programming and provide equipment to support its programs this summer—helping local youth stay engaged.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Local students won an essay contest on life issues (and will attend a Cardinals game as their prize) as contest judges praised their thoughtful essays.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city approved negotiations with a third-party vendor to operate parking lots and structures — some council members raised concerns about privatizing the operation.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • City officials are preparing a 2026 budget that may include installing geothermal heating and cooling systems at City Hall and the police station before 2028—this idea came from a $16,000 energy audit by Veregy LLC in August 2024. Finance Director Shiela Pearre said a debt service payment for the contract will be included in the budget to help cut future repair costs and save energy.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Jefferson City's food code requires that food-service establishments be inspected every six months, and officials check for priority violations that could cause food contamination or illness.  Jefferson City News Tribune
