- ➤ Capital Mall's Back to School event on Aug.2 from noon to 2 p.m. will include an ice cream social with performances by Safety Kids, UPLIFT and Show Me Players to teach kids about making good choices. The event, sponsored by the Osage County Anti-Drug Community Action Team—who took over from The Council for Drug Free Youth, will offer refreshments like ice cream, soda and hot dogs and aims to raise about $5,000 to help pay volunteer directors. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire occurred Wednesday afternoon in the battery storage area at Sam’s Club on Stoneridge Parkway in Jefferson City, which forced an evacuation and was controlled by automatic sprinklers and an employee using a fire extinguisher — no injuries were reported and investigators have not determined the cause. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two people, Trevor Foley and John P. Rush, have been charged with Knowingly Burning Or Exploding on the Fourth of July after a firework they lit set a car on fire in Jefferson City on July 4th, and Foley faces a $10,000 bond while Rush faces a $2,500 bond. KRCG-TV
- ➤ Cole County deputies responded to a call on Veil of Tears Drive where 20 dogs and two cats were found in unsanitary kennels filled with urine and feces—four individuals were charged with 22 felony counts of animal abuse and each faces a $10,000 bond as the animals were seized and moved to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
