- ➤ A local nonprofit called Dreams to Reality has long disputed its name with a similarly named California group—recently, the California group asked Jefferson City's nonprofit to stop using the name in its ads. Jefferson City News Tribune
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Click2Sell4U, an eastside store known for big finds, closed its High Street location last week. The business announced it would shut its doors for good Saturday after discounting remaining items—a final sale that marked the end of its run. Jefferson City News Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Jefferson City School District will open its new early childhood center on August 7 at 3:30 p.m. at 1840 E. McCarty St., with self-guided tours available until 5 p.m., and the center will serve all 4- and 5-year-olds while doubling early childhood capacity – it also features a 500-person storm shelter, large playground, and a kitchen for direct-to-classroom service. - ➤ Bobby Showers, a senior auditor III and director of state audits at the Missouri Auditor’s Office, has enjoyed nearly three decades on the job + he joined the office in 1997 after earning his accounting degree from the University of Missouri. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ MoDOT is starting a project this week to upgrade pedestrian facilities along Route M in Taos — from Firehouse Lane to Stoney Gap Road — while a $1.3 million award in June enabled Concrete Solution LLC to add sidewalks, curb ramps and pavement improvements at 10 locations in Jefferson City. The upgrades will also improve pedestrian areas in Wardsville. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ JeffTran will study Jefferson City's public transit system to explore diverse funding methods including sales taxes, federal and state grants, and passenger fares—officials aim to find the best approach for future operations. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ The Jefferson City Council will vote Monday to begin contract negotiations with PCI Municipal Services LLC for parking management as the city plans to demolish an old garage and study parking rates (with a five-year bid valued at $4.8 million). The council will also consider a $1.9 million contract for North Chestnut Street improvements and vote on other measures including subdivision plans and a tax lien waiver (related to ongoing development projects).
