COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Doctors at Capitol Region Medical Center cleaned cake off their faces during a fundraiser held Thursday afternoon that supported United Way Central Missouri's 2025 campaign while celebrating 100 years in the community. The hospital aimed to raise $60,000 as part of a $2.8 million goal to aid 26 local partner agencies — and the event allowed staff a fun break from their daily duties.  KRCG-TV
  • The Jefferson City Police Department is accepting applications for the 2025 Citizens Police Academy for local residents—sessions run Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. between August 27 and October 22, and applicants must be at least 18 with a full background check; applications are due by August 18.  KRCG-TV
  • Local FFA students at the Boone County Fair are using fans & fresh water, cooling cloaks and electrolytes to protect animals from rising heat. They keep barn doors open for ventilation and change water several times a day to minimize heat stress.  ABC 17

CRIME NEWS

  • A Columbia woman, Bailey Thomas, was found passed out in a running car on Scarborough Way in a Jefferson City yard Wednesday; authorities say meth and fentanyl were recovered and she faces drug sales charges.  KWOS
  • A Jefferson City woman, 32—accused of trying to stab a man with a steak knife early Thursday morning—was charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action and is held without bond at Cole County Jail.  ABC 17
  • A former Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper from Columbia, 52-year-old Collin Stosberg, was arrested yesterday in Jefferson City after allegedly punching a police officer twice and striking two paramedics while reacting poorly to THC gummies—he faces multiple assault and resisting arrest charges with a bond set at $10,000.  KWOS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Transportation said one westbound lane on I-70 near mile marker 137.8 at Callaway County Route J near Millersburg will be closed on July 22 between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m. for pavement repairs—motorists should slow down and expect short delays.  KRCG-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Post 5 Juniors from Jefferson City are headed to Cape Girardeau today for the Missouri Legion AA State Tournament where they will open pool play against Sedalia Post 642 at 8 p.m. — The team earned its spot by winning the Zone 1 Tournament with a 7-0 win over Washington Post 218 and remains on a long unbeaten streak.  Jefferson City News Tribune
