CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Jefferson City woman, Dae'Monie Mony'ea Edwards, was charged with first-degree child endangerment and third-degree domestic assault after she allegedly kicked her 4-year-old son down a flight of stairs during a 911 call (witnesses reported the incident followed a ketchup mess) and a warrant was issued with no bond while the child's father planned to pick him up on Friday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Gov Mike Kehoe signed two bills that affect state taxes and fees — one that grants Missouri investors a tax break on long-term capital gains and another that raises motor vehicle registration and driver's license fees by 50% to attract more license office contractors. - ➤ Gov. Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 28 to cut the temporary tag period from 90 days to 30 days—an effort to reduce the annual $20 million—$30 million lost from expired tags as reported by the Missouri Department of Revenue. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approved the 2026-30 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program that includes 18 Cole County projects and a total of 198 projects in Central Missouri. In Jefferson City, the U.S. 54 widening project will begin in 2026 and a traffic signal will be added at South Ten Mile Drive and Missouri Boulevard using $13.3 billion from federal and state funds for road and bridge improvements. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Veterans Commission report published this week shows that 171 veterans died by suicide in 2022, a rate of 42.6 per 100,000 that exceeds the national average. The report shows roughly three-quarters of the veteran deaths involved guns and it cites stigma and limited access to mental health care as barriers to obtaining help. ABC 17
