  • Today, Jefferson City hosted its annual Salute to America Festival where a parade, concert, and classic car show took place downtown and veterans Wilburne C. Rowden and Ralph Calaburlo were honored—residents celebrated patriotism with live music, good food, and fireworks—bringing the community together.  KRCG-TV
  • Brenda Haslag, a Jefferson City retiree, volunteers at the Samaritan Center—sorting clothes and organizing donated items for clients from 12:30-5:30 p.m. every day marks her long-standing passion for community service.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • A 2023 Hyundai Elantra went airborne twice on Saturday, July 5 on Lake Road near Pleasant View Drive in Cole County—first over a hill before hitting a fence and then striking a tree—causing serious injuries to three occupants who were taken to University Hospital.  KRCG-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cliff Olsen leads Cole County’s ambitious 250th celebrations and shows his passion for early American history through topics from the Stamp Act to Lewis and Clark. He wrote a book about Thomas Jefferson (and is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution) to share his deep interest with locals.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Grammy award winner Crystal Gayle, known for her hit ‘Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue’, will perform rain or shine in Jefferson City on Friday, July 18 at the Capital Region MU Health Care amphitheater. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.—organized by Jefferson City Parks and Recreation.  KWOS
