COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sarah and Justin Windell—who led the local Salvation Army for six years—will leave their posts at the Center of Hope on Sunday as they relocate to St. Louis.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council will soon review a proposed DarkSky ordinance aimed at reducing light pollution in Jefferson City—this ordinance was introduced by a councilwoman to improve local nighttime visibility.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • Gov. Mike Kehoe has until the end of June to sign Senate Bill 150, a large education bill that would create a Career-Tech Certificate program to reimburse full-time community college and tech school students for tuition, textbooks, and fees—students must meet a 2.0 GPA and have a clean record. Kehoe, who proposed $15 million for career technical centers during his State of the State, was on a trade mission in France on Wednesday and has not yet commented on the bill.  ABC 17
  • Crews have started work on two U.S. 54 bridges in rural Cole County; the aging eastbound bridge built in 1941 will be replaced while the westbound bridge’s deck from 1965 is being rehabilitated. Traffic restrictions will begin June 23 — drivers on Route CC and Shepherd Hills Road will be redirected as Don Schnieders Excavating Company works to finish the project by Dec. 1.  Jefferson City News Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • A report by The Commonwealth Fund found Missouri’s health system ranked near the bottom nationally because nursing home residents received antipsychotic drugs at a rate of over 21%—well above the national average of around 15%. The study also highlighted issues like high avoidable hospital use, low primary care spending, and troubling health disparities that weigh on the state’s overall performance.  Jefferson City News Tribune
