ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Jefferson City police said a pickup truck hit a pedestrian Monday morning on the 1400 block of Missouri Blvd when the driver turned from a private driveway, and the victim (a resident of Long Lane near Lebanon) was taken to University Hospital with critical injuries.  KWOS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cole County Circuit Court Judge Cotton Walker ruled on Monday that Travelers Insurance must pay Ryan Ferguson $43.8 million after his 2005 wrongful conviction for the murder of sports editor Kent Heitholt was vacated in 2013 due to withheld evidence.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • A Missouri Senate committee will hold a hearing on June 30 at 1 p.m. in Jefferson City to address the dispute between MU Health Care and Anthem after MU Health Care’s network of 1,200 providers, 80 clinics and seven hospitals was removed from Anthem’s plans on April 1 — both parties are set to testify as lawmakers work to secure a rate that Missourians can afford.  KWOS
  • On Tuesday, the Jefferson City Council unanimously approved plans to build the Walnut Hills sub-division for 230 family homes off Rock Ridge Road and Route C—aiming to ease a severe housing shortage with only 21 homes on the market—and city officials said no timeline for completion has been set.  KRCG-TV
  • Construction crews working on the state's new Multi-Agency Laboratory Facility are ahead of schedule at the end of Chestnut Street — Missouri Office of Administration said steel has been erected and exterior coverings installed. The facility, which will house multiple state agencies, was originally scheduled to be completed by December 2026.  Jefferson City News Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Thirty-four local high school baseball players were named to the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state team on Monday — the St. Elizabeth Hornets led with six honorees — and senior Gavin Williams was named Class 1 player of the year after his team won the state championship this spring with a 25-7 record.  Jefferson City News Tribune
