  • The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop G visited 10-year-old Jacob's home on Monday, June 16 to deliver a campaign hat for his birthday—three squad cars were parked outside as his heroes made the visit a cherished memory.  KRCG-TV
  • The Auxiliary will host the 67th annual ice cream social June 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral's Cana Hall to support improvements for patient care at St. Mary’s Hospital. The event will include a silent auction, bake sale, and food options—tickets cost $4 and include ice cream and homemade cake—adding a fun fundraising twist for the community.  KRCG-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 3:48 p.m. on Monday, a caller reported a man clinging to debris in the Osage River, prompting about 50 emergency responders to rescue four people and transport two with minor injuries to a hospital—officials later found the other individuals onshore.  ABC 17

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday evening, a Jefferson City officer pulled over a vehicle on Highway 50/63 near Shamrock Road and forced the occupants—Joseph Houser, 44, of Freeburg, and Katherine Rice, 33, of Jefferson City—to exit after they refused to do so, leading to the discovery of 113 grams of meth in a zip-lock bag and charges of second degree accessory trafficking drugs and resisting with arrest for a felony; both are held in Cole County Jail.  KRCG-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri lawmakers passed a bill that creates a reimbursement process for free career-certification programs—high school graduates must meet requirements such as a 2.5 GPA, 95% attendance, and 50 hours of tutoring or hold a career-tech certificate, and the measure now awaits Gov.   • Cole County Judge Cotton Walker awarded Ryan Ferguson $43.8 million on Monday in his lawsuit against Travelers Insurance over an unpaid settlement with Columbia police detectives who were involved in his 2001 murder conviction — the decision adds interest to his nearly $11 million settlement and provides $305,250 in attorney fees.  ABC 17

SPORTS NEWS

  • International cyclists are riding through Missouri as part of the 3000 mile Race Across America, with the first group passing the Lake of the Ozarks Sunday night and Monday afternoon before stopping at Jefferson City near the old Truman Hotel. Notably, Austrian cyclist Kurt Matzler (56 years old) rides for the Rotary team to raise funds for polio awareness and is facing fatigue as he rides nearly 300 miles a day while preparing to head to St. Louis and finish in Atlantic City.  KRCG-TV
