  • On Saturday, June 14th, American Legion Post 5 held a retirement ceremony in Jefferson City where veterans destroyed an American flag in line with their Flag Day tradition — about 40 people observed the event. The ceremony honored the flag as a symbol of service and sacrifice.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • The Men's Club of Trinity Lutheran Church hosted a Father's Day barbeque on Sunday in Jefferson City, selling ready-to-eat & frozen ribs at $23 for a full-slab & $13 for a half-slab.   • Jefferson City Boy Scout Randy Vassos built and donated a sturdy table to the Community Center on Wednesday as part of his Eagle Scout project—his work now provides the center with a unique piece of handcrafted furniture.  Jefferson City News Tribune

  • Alvan Louis Bond, the second child and oldest son of Martin Bond and Eliza Simpson, was raised on a farm near Mount Carmel where he learned a strong work ethic from watching his father work. He later farmed and served as a founding member and elder of the Scrivner Church of Christ — a testament to his resolve amid hardship.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Special Learning Center held a farewell reception Saturday for students, staff, and alumni before moving to its new site on Weathered Rock Road in August—where new programs and increased childcare capacity are planned.
