- ➤ James Farris, a former Jefferson City teacher, will speak at Scheppers Distributing at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to present his translation from Latin to English of Rev. Ferdinand Helias' memoirs—copies of his book detailing the Jesuit priest’s local contributions will be available for purchase. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Area residents gathered Saturday at Lincoln University to celebrate Juneteenth with a parade and festival (Rev. Adrian Hendricks led prayers) as they honored their history and community. Jefferson City News Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Blair Oaks School District saw enrollment drop as school officials linked the decline to limited local housing options—Board member Mark McCarter noted at the May meeting that enrollment is expected to fall further next school year. Jefferson City News Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Garrett Frandson, a water quality coordinator for the Missouri Stream Team, waded in ankle-deep water at Ellis-Porter Riverside Park in the rain—he carried a D-frame net as he worked to check the stream quality. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Mike Kehoe signed three Senate bills into law yesterday after a special session in Jefferson City aimed at disaster relief, tax relief and economic support. The laws set aside funds for emergency aid, housing and sports investments—assuring local families and businesses of help—while the Governor stressed that the measures will protect jobs and boost future growth. - ➤ The Jefferson City Council is expected to vote on a contentious Walnut Hills subdivision proposal during Monday’s regular meeting. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a legislative package on Saturday that provides hundreds of millions in aid to help keep the Chiefs and Royals in Missouri + lawmakers approved the measure in a special session. The teams will decide on their final plans as they weigh Missouri's offer against Kansas options set to expire on June 30 + discussions will continue after the deadline. Jefferson City News Tribune

- ➤ On Thursday, the Jefferson City Housing Authority Board of Commissioners approved the sale of two homes on Capitol Avenue—properties at 501 and 507 E. Capitol Ave. were sold during the June meeting. Jefferson City News Tribune
