CRIME NEWS

  • Joyce Jacox and her granddaughter Laila I. Pruitt have been charged with felony healthcare fraud for allegedly falsifying Medicaid timesheets to claim over $27,000 from June 2022 to June 2024 (they are set to appear in court in Jefferson City on July 15).  KRCG-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA County Retail Prices reported that gas prices in Boone and Cole counties are among Missouri’s highest even though they remain below the national average, and experts say the ongoing conflict in the Middle East may push prices higher. Crude oil jumped more than $5 a barrel on Friday after Israel attacked targets and Iran launched a retaliatory missile strike + AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria warned that uncertainty could lead to further price spikes.  ABC 17

  • Lincoln University assistant professor Qingbo Yang published a paper in RSC Advances in February on a fast new test for foodborne pathogens using Raman spectroscopy and machine learning (his team, working with Missouri S&T and supported by the USDA Evans-Allen Program, plans to shorten detection times to minutes).  Lincoln University of Missouri

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mike Kehoe will lead a Missouri delegation on his first international trade mission to Paris from June 16-20 — where he will attend the Paris Air Show and visit a Normandy memorial. The trip will include meetings with business leaders and government officials — and it is funded by the Hawthorne Foundation.  KRCG-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Race Across America cyclists are arriving in Missouri this weekend after leaving Oceanside on June 10 and riding along U.S. Route 54 with a time stop at the Signal gas station in Camdenton. The Camden County Sheriff’s Office asked drivers to watch for racers and their support teams + cyclists will continue toward Jefferson City then east on Missouri Route 94 to Washington.  KRCG-TV
  • Will Boyd of California earned a spot in the Missouri Amateur Championship—he tied for second with a 1-over 71 during Tuesday’s qualifier at Oak Meadow Country Club where four area golfers advanced. The championship begins on June 24 in Columbia at The Club at Old Hawthorne.  Jefferson City News Tribune
