GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday morning, Governor Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 81 to boost public safety— the law makes childhood sexual abuse nondisclosure agreements unenforceable after August 28 and adds measures such as extended Line of Duty Compensation, enhanced criminal background checks and modernized fireworks rules. - ➤ Jefferson City attorney Michael Berry asked Judge Cotton Walker for a court update on the pending decision about a multi-million dollar award for Ryan Ferguson’s wrongful conviction—Berry suggested a July 7 hearing to review motions by Ferguson’s team and Travelers’ Insurance. ABC 17
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Transportation will start replacing the eastbound Neighorn Bridge on Highway 54 south of Jefferson City on June 16, which will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction and impose restrictions at Route CC and the Shepherd Hills Road and Wooded Hills Lane intersection—speed limits will drop to 45 mph and a 14‑foot width limit applies. Work on the westbound bridge will begin after the eastbound replacement is finished, and all work is expected to end in early November. KRCG-TV
- ➤ Legislators in Jefferson City near the end of the special session heard testimony on bills for storm relief—tax changes and funding for sports stadiums meant to boost local economic activity. The measures include at least $71 million approved for tornado recovery plus $100 million from state funds and a $1.5 billion economic package, and the full House will debate them today. KRCG-TV
