- ➤ Today, the 2025 Relay for Life of Cole County runs from 5-11 p.m. at the Special Olympics Missouri campus in Jefferson City and offers games for kids, a cornhole tournament, dodgeball, food, an auction and fundraising booths, with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. and a luminaria lighting ceremony at 10 p.m.—co-chairs Kelley Crawford and Betsy Lock set a $90,000 goal to support cancer patients and their families. - ➤ Young artists will have the chance to gain new skills at a free paint and perspective workshop hosted by the Jefferson City Museum of Modern Art this summer, and it runs from 9 a.m.-noon. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ A rehearsal for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee musical took place in Jefferson City on May 29 and impressed local audiences with its fast-paced, funny and touching playbook — the production offers a fresh twist on the classic contest format. Jefferson City News Tribune

- ➤ Lincoln University became the first university in Missouri and the first HBCU in the nation to offer a Master of Arts degree in Community and Economic Development + it is now accepting online applications for the fall semester. The program will use Jefferson City as a training ground for new public service leaders. KRCG-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe expanded his special session agenda on Wednesday to add disaster relief measures, lower property taxes, and economic development incentives. Lawmakers may now consider emergency funds—up to $100 million for disasters and $25 million for housing support—and new tax credits for homeowners affected by disasters. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Lincoln University and its contractor extended the overlay work on Chestnut Street to 5 p.m. Monday due to weather delays—drivers are advised to follow posted signage and avoid the area when possible. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Gov. Mike Kehoe expanded a special session to include disaster relief funds for St. Louis, property tax changes, and tax incentives for stadium improvements as lawmakers work to keep Kansas City teams from relocating. The Senate passed a $361 million spending bill with a 23-10 vote early Thursday, and debates continue on a property tax cap amendment that could limit annual increases to 5 percent in some counties, with teams needing to decide by June 30. - ➤ Missouri senators approved a plan to give over $100 million to help tornado victims in St. Louis and offered bonds and tax credits—aimed at keeping the Kansas City teams in Missouri with future stadium renovations—to support both disaster relief and local sports. - ➤ MU Health Care will open its second Mizzou Pharmacy location—located at the Family Medicine Clinic on busy Southwest Boulevard—in Jefferson City Monday.
