COMMUNITY NEWS

  • K9s on the Front Line held a ribbon cutting yesterday at its new training facility in Missouri where the non-profit offers free service dog training over a 22-week program for veterans and first responders—Governor Mike Kehoe praised the program's support for veterans.  KRCG-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Jefferson City man, 33-year-old Derrick Crumble, is held without bond at Cole County Jail after police said he had a stolen gun allegedly used in a downtown shooting on West Ashley Street and admitted he planned to sell it (he faces charges of illegal gun possession, armed criminal action and misdemeanor tampering with evidence) with a court date not yet set.  ABC 17
  • Jefferson City police blocked Olive Street in a residential area yesterday as officers in body armor and with long guns arrested a man while investigating an alleged assault and weapons offense (emergency dispatchers issued a public alert urging residents to avoid the area).  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utility work will reduce two parts of East McCarty Street to one lane+ as Stockman Construction repairs water service for Missouri American Water in the 400 block and at Locust on Thursday. Lane closures will last from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. + flaggers and posted signs will guide drivers.  Jefferson City News Tribune
  • During Tuesday's special session at the Capitol, Missouri lawmakers worked on proposals including $25 million in funding for tornado victims— their top priority— and bills for a research reactor and new sports stadiums. Senators plan to send the measures to the House later this week.  KRCG-TV
  • Missouri Senator Josh Hawley warned that Medicaid cuts could endanger access to rural health care—some providers may close, boosting costs for all Missourians. The Big Beautiful Bill, which proposes more than $600 billion in cuts and work requirements for some adults, is set to reach the president's desk by the Fourth of July.  KRCG-TV
  • Jim Avery— a three-time combat veteran and former state representative— announced his candidacy for Missouri State Senate District 22 today as Senator Mary Elizabeth Coleman is not running again in a district covering parts of Jefferson County. He said he will fight special interests and use his military and legal background to represent local voters.  The Missouri Times

  • SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital will hold its annual Ice Cream Social on June 18 to mark 120 years of service in Jefferson City—this fundraising event is in its 67th year.  Jefferson City News Tribune
