- ➤ Today, the Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association hosts its third annual Backyard BBQ Bash at the Millbottom on West Main with MFA Oil grilling pork steaks for a $35 dinner and Trinity Lutheran Church volunteers serving cheesy potatoes—games like a pie-eating contest, a golf simulator and axe throwing will benefit foster, adoptive and kinship families. - ➤ Capital City will host several events in the coming weeks starting with a Vintage and Handmade Market at Jefferson City Jaycees Cole County Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday where admission is $10 on Friday and $5 on Saturday while a rodeo at 1207 Boonville Road offers tickets at $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 6 to 11. A Juneteenth Heritage Parade and Festival will run downtown from June 8 through 14 with free entry; Ox Music Fest on June 14 at Capital Bluffs Event Center will feature live performances with $10 general admission, and The Cappy Classic will be held on June 27 at Venue 324 with tickets at $60. - ➤ A Jefferson City man, Deamon L. Hogue, 44, was charged with Second Degree Trafficking Drugs and Unlawful Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia after police found 97 capsules that tested positive for fentanyl during a Saturday traffic stop on West Main Street, and he is held in Cole County Jail without bond. - ➤ More than 20 state employees were laid off by the Secretary of State's Office on Friday — 17 from the Archives and 5 from the State Library — due to legislative actions and budget cuts. Secretary of State Denny Hoskins said the painful staffing reduction was made only after all alternatives were exhausted and now leaves the office with 194 employees. ABC 17
- ➤ An 18‐month process began on Monday for Missouri’s School Funding Modernization Task Force appointed by Gov. Mike Kehoe. The 16‐member group will review data and best practices plus hold its next meeting on June 23 as it plans to submit updated school funding recommendations by December 1. ABC 17
- ➤ An analysis shows that federal tax changes could cut Missouri revenue by between $170M and $429M as state tax returns mirror federal rules—Gov. Kehoe warned that these cuts may add to a budget already under strain. Lawmakers may need to adjust Missouri’s tax system to avoid a deeper fiscal gap in the coming year. Jefferson City News Tribune
