COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two major road construction projects are delaying daily commutes in Mid-Missouri — one improving Highway 54 in Jefferson City and another expanding Interstate 70 to three lanes. These projects are affecting thousands of travelers during the summer work season.  ABC 17

  • A Jefferson City man died when his Club Car golf cart hit a rock on private property north of Dunwandrin Road at the Lake of the Ozarks early Friday morning at 12:45 a.m.  KRCG-TV

  • MU Health Care's Quick Care at Hy-Vee in Jefferson City has expanded its hours and will now operate from 7 a.m. + 7 p.m. to give patients more time to be seen.  Jefferson City News Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln University announced Adrian S. Petrescu as the inaugural director of its new Security Sciences Institute— the institute will focus on developing security expertise and advancing research in the field.  Jefferson City News Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four months and four days into the 2025 Missouri General Assembly, Senate leader O’Laughlin helped bring order to the Senate—but House Bill 19 was dropped on Friday amid budget fights that left many House members upset about key projects. The disagreement has raised tensions between the two chambers and may affect future lawmaking.  The Missouri Times
  • Construction crews begin Phase 2 improvements on Highway 54 as four ramps near Linden Drive and Stadium Boulevard will close and lanes narrow to one in each direction starting Tuesday, while local teams will also close the Ellis Boulevard Overpass Bridge nightly from Sunday through Wednesday (the work is part of a DOT Bridge Bundle expected to finish by October).  ABC 17

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the state track and field championships held Saturday at Adkins Stadium, the Helias girls team earned several medals, a first-place plaque & its first state trophy in 26 years while finishing third as a team. The team also won its first state event since 2017 after a strong performance in the Class 4 competition.  Jefferson City News Tribune
