CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Florida man — 47-year-old Zachary R. Cooper, a former police officer who first claimed to be from Charlotte then said he was from Florida — was charged with second degree trafficking drugs, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after a Callaway County deputy pulled him over on Thursday at 1:28 a.m. and discovered .72 grams of meth and 52 fentanyl pills containing 5 grams of fentanyl in his Jeep Wrangler. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe remains guardedly optimistic that lawmakers will pass a funding package to keep Missouri sports teams—he disapproves of the Overland Park Chiefs and the Olathe Royals—while noting partisan debates from last week may signal a heated Special Session. KWOS
- ➤ Legislators sent Gov. Mike Kehoe a bill that will let homeschooled students try out for public school sports teams and activities starting in August (after over a decade of efforts by lawmakers and homeschooling families) and if he does not act by July 15 (the bill will automatically become law), it will expand extracurricular opportunities for these students. - ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation said a data breach in February possibly exposed personal health information from current and former employee health plans. The agency advised affected members to monitor financial accounts and report suspicious activity—free credit monitoring was offered—after an April review revealed that compromised files may include Social Security numbers and contact details.
