COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Jefferson City Community Center will host a park day on June 7 to celebrate Juneteenth & honor freedom and unity, with organizers expecting community participation to mark the occasion.  Jefferson City News Tribune

CRIME NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers will drop funding for several Jefferson City projects in a special session on Monday as House Bill 19’s revised budget cuts $20 million for a parking garage at the new conference center, $15 million for state penitentiary renovations, and $4 million for a Cole County juvenile center. Representative Dave Griffith expressed disappointment — noting that extra parking near the capitol is needed for visitors — and called for lawmakers to reassess the changes.  KRCG-TV
  • Missouri lawmakers will meet in Jefferson City Monday at noon to discuss storm aid, plans to keep the Chiefs and Royals in the state, and $25 million in funding for a new research reactor at Mizzou which makes important medical isotopes. Governor Kehoe said the session will address economic concerns and a long-term research project expected to take eight to ten years to complete.  KWOS
  • The Missouri Department of Transportation announced that the Ellis Boulevard bridge over Highway 54 will close nightly for maintenance starting June 1 at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning and will remain closed until the morning of June 5—MoDOT crews will work each night to complete the routine maintenance.  KRCG-TV
  • Missouri’s social services agency confirmed that the state will share personal data on SNAP recipients—including names, addresses and Social Security numbers—with the USDA as requested in a May 6 letter. The data, covering Jan. 1, 2020 to now, has raised privacy concerns while officials say it will help keep the aid program fair.  Jefferson City News Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • Abortion services in Missouri halted after the Missouri Supreme Court ruled that a district judge had applied the wrong standard, forcing Planned Parenthood to cancel appointments statewide (in Columbia, Kansas City, and elsewhere).
