- ➤ The Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band performed its Memorial Day concert on Monday, May 25 at the Capitol, playing challenging pieces like 'Esprit de Corps' and 'Hymn to the Fallen' (300 community members attended). - ➤ Jefferson City native Rabekah D. Stewart, a Lincoln University alumna, has been named vice president for student success and engagement at Stephens College in Columbia. She brings 25-year experience in expanding student access and opportunity. Lincoln University of Missouri
- ➤ LU Extension hosted a hands-on Bench Grafting Workshop at George Washington Carver Farm in late April, where farmers, gardeners and students learned fruit tree propagation from horticulture professor Giuma Abusrewil. - ➤ State lawmakers cut $2 million in funding for the Double Up Food Bucks program that helps low-income families buy fresh produce, and the program’s short-term federal funds are secure but its future expansion may slow outside the Kansas City area. KRCG-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Legislature approved a healthcare bill that lets privately insured residents pick up a 12-month supply of oral contraceptives starting in 2027 (Medicaid recipients already have annual access). If signed by Gov. Mike Kehoe, the measure will ease access and reduce time spent on pharmacy visits. KRCG-TV
