Good morning, Jefferson City.

The City Council voted 7 to 3 against using public funds for the Arabia Steamboat Museum after staff found the project would cost between $65 million and $80 million while expected earnings would be under $2 million—now the resident who proposed the idea is working to raise private funds and meet with local education leaders to rework the plan.

Jefferson City Police will assign additional traffic patrols during Memorial Day weekend—aiming to boost road safety and ease traffic concerns.

Today, a memorial service is being held at the state Capitol to honor former governor and U.S. Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond—his body was brought from St. Louis by a Highway Patrol escort at 9 a.m.—with the state ceremony in the Capitol rotunda set to begin at noon.

Bond will lie in state for 24 hours while flags fly at half-staff until sunset Thursday and north and south circle drive remain closed until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
