GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City Council voted 7 to 3 against using public funds for the Arabia Steamboat Museum after staff found the project would cost between $65 million and $80 million while expected earnings would be under $2 million—now the resident who proposed the idea is working to raise private funds and meet with local education leaders to rework the plan. - ➤ Jefferson City Police will assign additional traffic patrols during Memorial Day weekend—aiming to boost road safety and ease traffic concerns. Jefferson City News Tribune
- ➤ Today, a memorial service is being held at the state Capitol to honor former governor and U.S. Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond—his body was brought from St. Louis by a Highway Patrol escort at 9 a.m.—with the state ceremony in the Capitol rotunda set to begin at noon. Bond will lie in state for 24 hours while flags fly at half-staff until sunset Thursday and north and south circle drive remain closed until 1 p.m. Wednesday. ABC 17
